On 9 June 2022, the Cabinet approved the appointment of Jacob Mbele as the new director-general (DG) at the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy.

As the Black Energy Professionals Association (BEPA), we welcome the decision made by the Presidency on Mr. Jacob Mbele’s new appointment. BEPA Co-Founder and Chairperson Mrs. Meta Mhlarhi CA (SA) mentioned “I am delighted to learn that Mr. Mbele who has worked and consulted extensively on the introduction of Independent Power Producers into the bid windows for renewable energy will now be at a better position to contribute in growing and moving the South Africa energy industry forward.”

“BEPA is an organisation that plays an instrumental role in enabling widespread economic transformation for black professionals in the energy sector particularly for women and the youth, and on behalf of BEPA and its members we would like to wish Mr. Jacob Mbele well on his new role,” concludes Mr. Pius Gumbi; also a BEPA Co-Founder and Director appointed by the department to represent BEPA on the Minister’s Executive Oversight Committee for the South African Renewable Energy Masterplan.
